First Who, Then What

Posted in Biz at 11:08 pm by Jess Leung

Inspired by Jim Collins on demonstrating the brutal facts on the company performance, got to consider the “who” questions instead of “what” questions at the moment.

Who is my RIGHT partners?!?!?!

“Leverage”

Posted in Biz, JESScumentary at 10:45 pm by Jess Leung

“Leverage” is the word that I have been repetitively thinking these days.

Have to find a way to incorporate it in my projects…well…another challenge.

well…it’s a business model, a competitive advantage and also an excuse for the resource committment (as far as I perceived).

Presentable?!?!?!

Posted in Biz, JESScumentary at 6:00 pm by Jess Leung

How to be more presentable?

~This is the topic that I have been thinking about for a long time these days.

For me, it’s not easy, but it’s necessary.

How to present the idea and the materials to the audience in a short period of time resulted in their understaning and acceptance.

For all these years, I have just met a few charismatic trainer. But once met, you can never forget how motivational he/she can influence and how inspirational he/she can make on the audience. A born talent? or can be trained and developed indeed?

Understanding that one cannot be charismatic in a sudden, but one can be learnt & transformed to a motivational and inspirational trainer in a well-planned & well-designed manner.

The Road Transformed From Cost Center to Profit Center

Posted in Biz at 8:20 pm by Jess Leung

Someone asked me if IT is the sunset industry in Hong Kong.

I would say, it really depends on how you run it and what’s your role, particularly your value, in it.

For the past few years, there were already a lot of IT people who have been eliminated through competition. For the rest of them who are still in the industry, most of those are receiving undesireable packages and working in a undesirable environment at all.

As always, things are not happening in monotonous circumstances. There are quite a many stories happeneing everyday which are telling another side of the coin. It happens.

But what made them different from the rest of all?

Absolutely not by luck!!!

It all lies in how much value they can generate for the stakeholders and particularly its associated benefits of that value generation.

Same old theory, what types of customers you want to serve, the poor or the rich?!

It’s absolutely possible to transform the rendering services from resource consumption process to value generation process.

As a result, dedicate your effort in finding the ways out in providing added value is the only my advice for you.

One of My Favourite Entrepreneurs: Allan Zeman

Posted in Biz, JessFavourites at 6:56 pm by Jess Leung

allan-zeman.jpgHe attracts me so much that I have been studying his story for quite a long time. Well… … he is one of my favourite entrepreneurs in Hong Kong and across the region, not only because he is smart, but also because he is so creative, charming, passionate… …

I admired him so much because he has grasped the opportunities so well that he has won so many battles by his wits (such as the LKF, Ocean Park etc)a s well as a person who really enjoy & live out life.

Btw, I’m also quite interested in the topic that if there is any correlation between his success and his race. Any sharings? ;-)

Leadership: Do the Right Things v.s. Do Things Right

Posted in Biz, WhatJessThink at 11:56 pm by Jess Leung

These days, I am working very hard to prepare a powerpoint presentation for a public speech for my boss on the topic of “Leadership”. In the very beginning, I thought this is a easy topic coz it’s so popular and common in the realm of business where tones of information are available. But soon I found out that the leadership theories such as the different types of leadership style, the traits of a great leader, the essential skills of leaders … are easy to present but the essence of the leadership is difficult to illustrate in words… coz to me, leadership is something stronly related to charisma, passion, vision, personal power etc.

During my research, I found out the following illustration is worth to note:

Managers are people who do things right.
Leaders are people who do the right things.

Like us, we also need to focus on doing the right things at the very beginning coz it’s only wasteful to do worthless things right with our best effort.

LUCK favors the PERSISTENT

Posted in Biz, Quote at 12:29 pm by Jess Leung

“Luck favors the persistent. This simple truth is a fundamental cornerstone of successful company builders. The builders of visionary companies were highly persistent, living to the motto: Never, never, never give up. But what to persist with? Their answer: The Company

Be prepared to kill, revise, or evolve an idea, but never give up on the company”

The Issues of Positioning Yourself

Posted in Biz, WhatJessThink at 5:55 pm by Jess Leung

Yesterday, I had a very nice tea break with my boss. We have come to an interesting  topic - positioning, which still keeps me thinking of its real application in the workplace and in the business realm today.

Positioning, you can name it as a tactic for a better bargain, a tool for playing office politics, a visible behavior for representing one’s stance, or whatever appropriate. But you cannot underestimate its power and extent of the impact, particularly during the stage of negotiation. Its ultimate goal is to put yourself in a undefeated position where you can  stay safe or fight. To certain degree, it’s a MIND game!!!

P.S. My boss, someone may say he’s my ex-boss, but I still treat him as my boss as long as I still stay in my current company. Well… … to me, he is not only my boss, but also my mentor for all these years. Really much appreciated for his teachings and valuable sharing.

個人問責制@你說我說他

Posted in Biz at 11:35 pm by Jess Leung

Google’s mission is to organize the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful.

Philosophy: Never settle for the best

Ten Things
1. Focus on the user and all else will follow.
2. It’s best to do one thing really, really well.
3. Fast is better than slow.
4. Democracy on the web works.
5. You don’t need to be at your desk to need an answer.
6. You can make money without doing evil.
7. There’s always more information out there.
8. The need for information crosses all borders.
9. You can be serious without a suit.
10. Great just isn’t good enough.
